Entry Requirements and Official Rules

These are the requirements that determine whether an entry can be accepted.

1. All contestants must be at least 14 but not older than 18 years of age by April 29, 2020.  

2. Legal residents of Shasta, Trinity, Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Humboldt, Del Norte, Modoc, Siskiyou, or Plumas Counties are eligible to compete in this competition. In addition full time students (between 14 & 18 years of age) enrolled at Shasta College or College of the Siskiyous are also eligible to enter the competition.  All contestants are required to prove eligibility. 

3. All entries must register to participate. 

4. Business Concept questions shall be uploaded through the Youth Entrepreneurship Program's website. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.

5. Elevator Pitch Videos must be submitted through the Youth Entrepreneurship Program's website to be eligible to participate in the competition. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline. 

6.  Participants must be physically present to compete in the final presentation.  Each presentation is to be 3 to 5 minutes in length.

7.  Each entrant must grant the Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) the right to use and display contestants' pictures and ideas for YEP marketing purposes.

8.  Each entrant is limited to one entry.

9.  By registering, you are opting-in to receive all YEP Business Plan Competition information and other YEP related materials. 

10. Contestants cannot enter or copy an existing business.  In addition, an individual/team’s business concept plan must represent their original work.  Individual/team members must sign a certification to this effect.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS COMPETITION:

REGISTERING FOR COMPETITION. To continue eligibility in competition, all deadlines as outlined in Deadlines and Dates must be met. You must agree ("opt-in") to receive email from YEP.

ELIGIBILITY: All legal U.S. residents residing in the California counties of Shasta, Trinity, Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Humboldt, Del Norte, Modoc, Siskiyou, or Plumas Counties who are 14 to 18 years of age may participate in this YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. In addition full-time students of Shasta College and College of the Siskiyous are also eligible to compete in the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. You may only enter this competition once per year. Your business concept plan MAY NOT BE a currently existing business. By entering this YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition you represent to YEP that you are either at least 18 years of age or have consent from a parent/legal guardian. Employees of YEP and its immediate families and members of their households are not eligible to participate in this YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. By registering to win the prize, the winners grant YEP permission to use his/her name (including screen name) and likeness for advertising and future promotion purposes without additional compensation (except where prohibited by law). Unaccepted prizes may not be awarded. This YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition is subject to these complete and official rules.

PUBLICATION RELEASE: All contestants voluntarily agree, without compensation of any kind, to appear or allow my art work or image to appear in any print, film, digital likeness or videotape produced by the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District. The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District shall have the right and may grant to others the right to disseminate, print, alter and publish names, likeness and biographical material, in connection with any publicity and promotion of the print, film, digital likeness, videotape or art work, except for the direct endorsement of any product. All contestants release and discharge the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District and its respective agents, employees, successors, assigns and licensees from any and all claims, liabilities and obligations of any kind of nature that may arise from my appearance or participation or art work incorporated in the print, film, digital likeness or videotape of any exhibition thereof. All contestants agree that the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District has no obligation to exhibit or televise my performance or art work or otherwise use my likeness or art work in its print, film, digital or videotape.

SELECTION OF WINNERS. Winners will be selected by the panel of judges selected by YEP on the day of the competition. The winners must be present to win. YEP reserves the right to modify scheduling of the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition without prior notice. If the judges determine in their sole discretion that there is any suspected or actual electronic tampering with the entries that may compromise the integrity of the competition, the judges reserve the right to void the entries at issue, and/or terminate the competition. YEP may require winners to provide proof that they are the authorized account holders of the email addresses used to enter the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet service provider, online service provider, or organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the email address. Any winner who does not comply with the official rules will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected.

NOTIFICATION: Prize winners will be notified during the award ceremony at the conclusion of the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. All winners of the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition are to be posted on the YEP web site 72 hours after the competition ends. Email YEP at acordell@shastacollege.edu. YEP is under no obligation to notify finalists by any means other than e-mail. YEP is not responsible for notifications that are misdirected or not received because of email addresses or mailing addresses that are no longer correct. If a potential finalist cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been made during one business day from the first notification attempt, such person may be disqualified, with an alternate winner selected.

REDEMPTION: YEP will deliver the prizes as previously stated. Each prize will be awarded to the appropriate winners within 14 business days after completing appropriate documentation at the YEP office. Prizes are non-transferable and no substitutions are allowed except by permission of YEP.

CONDITIONS: By participating in the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, you agree to release and hold YEP and its directors, officers, employees and agents, and all prize suppliers harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, and actions of any kind in connection with the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition or any product purchased, or resulting from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize, including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, whether suffered by you or a third party. This YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition is void wherever prohibited or restricted by law and is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of YEP and waive any right to claim ambiguity in the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition or these official rules. All decisions regarding the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, including, but not limited to, selecting winners, will be made by YEP, whose decisions shall be final. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state and local taxes.

LIST OF PRIZE WINNERS: For a written list of prize winners, mail a self-addressed stamped envelope, accompanied by a hand-printed request indicating "Winners List", to YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, 11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding, CA 96003. YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition is governed by U.S. law. The names, logos, and icons identifying the products and services of YEP are proprietary marks of YEP. YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition rules are subject to change at any time without notice.

YEP is not responsible for errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects in part or whole, delays in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for any technical or non-technical network, telephonic, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate or partial transmission of or failure to receive entry information by YEP on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any web site or any combination thereof. YEP is not responsible for any injury or damage to entrants or any other person's computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any materials in the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, or for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, altered, or illegible. All entries remain the contestants’ property but will not be returned without written request sent by March 20 2015, to the Youth Entrepreneurship Program, 11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding, CA 96003. YEP reserves the right to cancel temporarily or permanently the electronic method of YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition entries if it becomes technically corrupted.

DISQUALIFICATION: All of your entries in this and all other competitions sponsored by YEP in the past, present, or future, will be automatically disqualified without notice or recourse if you promote the competition through unsolicited commercial email, multiple repetitive postings to UseNet Newsgroups or even one posting to inappropriate UseNet Newsgroups.

All of your entries will be disqualified, at the sole discretion of YEP, if you attempt (i) to enter the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition through any means other than as described in these official rules; or (ii) to disrupt the YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, circumvent the terms and conditions of these official rules, or in any way tamper with YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. If either of the above occurs, YEP has the right to remedy any such action, disruption, or circumvention, and to seek damages from you to the fullest extent permitted by law.
